Necklaces
The word necklace dates back to the late 1500s and combines neck with lace, meaning "cord," from the Old French laz, "string, cord, or snare."
Not only symbols of wealth and status, necklaces often serve ceremonial, religious, magical or funerary purposes. Because of this they may have been one of the earliest types of adornment worn by humans.
